Loen is a peaceful place which is nevertheless packed with nearby opportunities for breathtaking adventures.

My suggestion:
Loen is very small but is a good starting point for touring the area around this region of Norway. You can also camp in a cabin, unless you think the price is prohibitive.
Summary:

Loen is close to many viewing points, so you can go on an expedition to climb the Via Ferrata and see the spectacular scenery and the neighbouring mountains and fjords. You can also go trekking on the Jostedalsbreen Glacier. Just try not to pay too much attention to the stories told by the locals, I'm particularly talking about the fact that the village was totally swept away in 1936 by a landslide, otherwise you may have trouble sleeping soundly...oops!

When you get to Loen, you're also just a stone's throw from the Ramnefjellsfossen Waterfall, which is ranked third highest in the world. It appears to be a completely natural, conserved waterfall and it's one of the biggest in Norway that isn't used to generate electricity. You can get to it by boat, by road or by seaplane and you can sleep in the nearby campsite, if you decide to begin your trek early in the morning.
