It is the longest and deepest fjord in Norway and its national emblem. One of its arms, Nærøyfjord, is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

My suggestion:
In the busy season you will have to book a cruise in advance.
Summary:

I preferred the north bank of the fjord. After a stay in the resort of Balestrand I took a boat up Nærøyfjord. It's the best known arm of Sognefjord. It gives you an impressive view of the majestic waterfalls coming off the mountains.

The scenery around the foot of the glacier was magnificent. It's the biggest glacier in Europe. It plunges into the fjord and is permanently growing. With a guide it makes an exceptional outing . I wasn't tempted but it is also possible to ski in summer.

Exploring Sognefjord is an unforgettable experience. You can also visit it by train if you take the famous Flam Line.
