The town of Uis is nothing extraordinary in and of itself, but it is located not far from several Damaraland sites such as the White Lady and Twyfelfontein frescos.

In Uis, I stayed at the Brandberg Rest Camp located in the centre, a pleasant and simple place. It is the owner of the place who acted as my guide for the surroundings, in particular taking me to the site of the old tin mine, of which the only thing left is the waste, a huge mountain of white powder!  This mountain must be Uis town's most impressive attraction . Since the mine shut, lots of people have left and the hotel owner was telling me that there had been a considerable drop in the economy. A virtual ghost town where you find only one petrol filling station and a supermarket! The next day, I left to discover the surroundings and especially the famous White Lady fresco, and put this dormitory town behind me.
