In the heart of Damaraland, <a href="/namibia/">one of the most beautiful regiongs in Namibia</a> , the Brandberg Massif is distinguished by its pinkish colour. The desert region is very pebbly and you have the impression that the massif consists solely of rocks piled one on top of the other. The road plunges out of sight between these crumbly-looking rocks, from which a few green bushes burst out and seem to fight tirelessly against the dryness. The Brandberg Massif is known to be home to the highest peak in the country, which I made do with admiring from afar, without making the ascent. However, it's known above all for its rock paintings, which have been preserved very well, known under the name of "White Lady". A local guide took me to see them, explaining the origin of the drawings; a moving visit when you know for how many centuries these designs have been left in the open air.
