Depending on which part of the Namib Desert I visited , I was either confronted with the orangey dunes of Sossusvlei or the golden ones of Skeleton Coast. Each time I could not help but stare into the distance contemplating this sublime landscape which stretches as far as the eye can see.  Most of my excursions in the Namib Desert were guided though, for driving in the sand is no easy task! But what a pleasure to drive on the golden dunes of Skeleton Coast, to climb up the dunes of Naib-Naukluft National Park, to marvel at nature's resistance in this hostile environment, to drive for hours on empty and stony tracks never coming across a single soul. A freedom which exists nowhere in Europe and which reminds me that this is the essence of travel, to confront yourself with the unknown and with new experiences.
