The Khustain Nuruu National Park covers more than 90,000 hectares and is a series of rolling hills, steppe and woodland. You can't camp in the park, but on the southern perimetre you'll find the River Tuul, where you can bed down for the night. We stayed in yurts that proved to be the perfect departure point, being close to the entry to this protected area, The landscape, as with all of Mongolia, is grandiose. It's the only place in the world when you can see wild horses frolicking around the countryside. It's an unforgettable sight. You'll also be able to spot foxes, gazelle, stags, wolves and lynx. I suggest you spend at least one night at the park's boundary, as sunrise and sunset are the best times to observe the local wildlife.
