A beautiful island just a few kilometres from Kota Kinabalu. Perfect for a relaxing day or a spot of exercise outside the town.

My suggestion:
Do not hesitate to travel across the island rather than simply being happy with the first beach you find after arriving. You might find a spot all to yourself to relax in.
Summary:

It only takes ten minutes or so to leave behind the urban atmosphere of Kota Kinabalu and arrive on this rather beautiful and well-preserved island.

Of the handful of islands just off the coast, Gaya Island is the most impressive, offering the chance to enjoy the beach or go walking through jungle landscapes for those who prefer to do some leisurely exercise.

As for me, I wandered through the heart of the island for a lovely walk in the lush forest. Relax on the white-sand beaches, making sure to go snorkelling. A few friends and a good picnic... What more could you ask for? A spontaneous day out which is really easy to organise, I highly recommend it during your relaxing stay.
