Hjalparfoss is a small, double waterfall which doesn't have the height or the power of Dettifoss or Gullfoss, nor the height of Hengifoss, but it does have two arms which merge. Here, I promise a beautiful walk to those who find themselves around Landmannalaugar.
During my trips to Iceland, I only took this gravel road n°32 once, which stops a little further, after Hjalparfoss. Indeed, it was time to park the vehicle and hike a little between lava fields and green, hilly slopes. Besides, I couldn't go any further, as the road then turned into a track reserved for 4x4s and I would have needed to come back in other conditions!
Access to the waterfall is easy and doesn't take long, which allows anyone to get there. The formations on the sides of Hjalparfoss, in basalts, seem to make sorts of designs, which only the Icelandic people can understand; perhaps they're trolls which ended up fossilised there!
