This tongue of the Vatnajokull glacier is visible from route n°1 and remains very accessible for people who wish to see a glacier up close.
My suggestion:
As it is very dangerous to walk on the glacier without a guide, favour a walk on the glacier managed by a local guide from Skaftafell, to put on your crampons and go on a climb of this ice giant.

Svinafellsjokull is the glacier tongue from where the walks on the glacier leaving from Skaftafell start off.
I was lucky enough, a few years ago, to put on crampons for a superb 3-hour athletic walk on this glacier. My memory of this activity is filled with wonder, especially the impression of being tiny in the face of Mother Nature's immensity.
The colours on the glacier, the transparency of the ice and the black marks of ashes, marks of old eruptions, all blend in front of your eyes, accompanied by a certain deafening silence, broken only by the crunching of crampons on the ice.
Accompanied by a guide, we walked between the crevasses and gentle slopes of the ice, some even being able to climb.
If this activity does not tempt you, it is still possible to walk as far as the foot of Svinafellsjokull and contemplate this ice giant from afar.
