 Delos is a tiny island in the Cyclades, whose importance in the ancient era was considerable.

Although it's uninhabited today, in the Ancient Greek era, Delos had a great commercial and religious importance. Indeed, you arrive at the site by the same path which the pilgrims used at that time. The remains, coupled with the remote and deserted situation of the island, immediately allowed me to make the link with the most distant eras and it's perhaps what makes the character of Delos unique. I was able to see there the ruins of four temples dedicated to Apollo, which bear witness to the fervour of the Ancient Greeks for God, and also the remains of temples dedicated to foreign gods, built at the time to meet the needs of passing merchants. The Terrace of the Lions, animals guarding the site, particularly interested me. Finally, the theatre district lets you see several mosaics from Greek and Roman times, which once adorned the floors of houses. <a href="/greece/">Discovering Greece</a> becomes true time travel here.
