For nature lovers Machalilla National Park is a must when in Ecuador . At once maritime and terrestrial, it gives you the opportunity to discover a fauna (birds, whales...) and an astonishing and varied flora.

My suggestion:
Take along binoculars so you can enjoy watching many of the reserve's bird species. The dry vegetation allows you to spot them easily. Remember to look out to sea, you might see some humpback whales!
Summary:

We were very surprised by Machalilla National Park thanks to one of the atypical ecosystems to which it is home: dry forest. Cacti and trees that are downy in the dry season offer an almost monochrome sight that is quite odd. This reserve also abounds in other lovely surprises like the beaches of Los Frailes , reputed to be the country's most beautiful. We especially liked the black sandy beach and its many orange crabs.

Walking from beach to beach is easy and pleasant, a raised observation hide even allows you to take advantage of a superb panorama and to get closer to the sea birds. Last asset and not the least, the whales, particularly numerous in July and August.

We feel without a doubt that this place is to be added to your Ecuador travel itinerary .
