Papallacta is a little village in the Andes located at over 3000 m, or nearly 10,000 ft in altitude and fed by warm water springs.

My suggestion:
The hotels in the village are expensive if you stay overnight but it's easy to go on a day trip from Quito and enjoy the hotel spas.
Summary:

Soaking in the natural warm waters of an open-air spa in an excellent way to take a relaxing break while on holiday in Ecuador. I loved the mountain setting and complete calm in this place. Even the drive from Quito is fantastic. The complex was almost deserted during the week but this isn't the case at weekends or during school holidays.

The decor at the Papallacta spa is fairylike, green and flowery. The outside temperature was cool and the baths were steaming, so there was magical air about the place. I heartily recommend this relaxing little interlude, which is a great contrast to the chaotic atmosphere of Quito yet quick and easy to get to.
