Tigua is a small village located in the mountains at the foot of Cotopaxi, a few kilometres from Latacunga lagoon. It is primarily known for its highly coloured crafts that are sold throughout Ecuador.

My suggestion:
If you have fallen in love with Tigua handicrafts, which originate from the place of the same name, we recommend that you make a stop directly in this village and purchase from the local artisans rather than pay through the nose in Quito.
Summary:

We purposely went out of our way to visit Tigua after having discovered the crafts to which this village has given its name. Naive and very colourful, you find it everywhere in Ecuador but some retailers charge a wide margin on the basic price, to the chagrin of the small artisans who only earn a few dollars for their craft.

As Tigua is only two hours by road from Quito and is not very far from the beautiful lagoon of Latacunga where we had planned to go, we took the opportunity to visit the craftsmen and make some purchases directly from them.

In their workshops smelling strongly of oil paint, we discovered how Tigua art comes to life on masks, wooden spoons, boxes and trays. It's impossible not to want to buy everything!
