Organising a trip to Ecuador is a fairly simple process. Ecuador is rapidly opening up to tourism and the lack of red tape is appealing to visitors.
There's not a lot of paperwork involved when organising a trip to Ecuador. Indeed, all you really need is your passport. But make sure it is valid for 6 months after your return date. British citizens do not need a visa if they are staying for 90 days or less. If you are planning to stay for longer you should apply in advance for a visa from the Ecuadorean Embassy in London.
You don't need to take vaccination certificates with you. Indeed, no vaccinations are required for entry into Ecuador. At the same time it's wise to be inoculated against Yellow Fever, Typhoid and Hepatitis A. If you're planning a trip to the Amazon rainforest, then malaria pills are recommended. You should also take out a fully comprehensive travel insurance that includes repatriation.
Sort out an International Drivers Permit if you want to drive. You can get one from your local Post Office for a few quid. You'll be required to present it if you rent a vehicle once there.
So, you're now almost three months into your trip to Ecuador. And, like most tourists, you've fallen for its charm and are in love with its amazing landscapes. As nothing urgent is waiting back home, you want to extend your trip and continue to enjoy the welcome its people offer. You can apply for an extention via the Ecuadorean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The other option is to leave Ecuador, visit a neighbouring country and then return. On re-entry you'll have the right to stay for three more months.
