In the west of Hunan province in China, nestling along the Tuojiang river, Fenghuang is a town that looks like it came out of a dream.

Summary:

Travelers usually fall instantly for the charm of this old town, which is exceptionally well preserved and remains faithful to the architectural styleof the Ming and Qing dynasties (from the 14th to the 17th centuries). Its ancient stone and wooden buildings, its old houses, its paved alleys, its shops and stalls...everything in this idyllic setting invites you to fall in love.

An absolute must-see during a stay in Fenghuang is its wall ! It's the second longest in the country at "only" 200 km. It has been damaged over time, but the ruins of the towers, the ramparts and the part that has been restored are really worth seeing.

At night fall, you can go on a night walk which prolongs the magic. Fenghuang is very lively! Make sure you walk in the old town where the buildings are lit up with a thousand lights.

The closest airport to get there is Tongren Fenghuang which is 30 km, or 45 minutes, away. There are buses from Changsha, Jishou, Huaihua and Zhangjiajie, and the train from Jishou or Huaihua.
