Jishou is a primarily industrial city located in Hunan Province, South China.

My suggestion:
Enjoy a quick city break in Jishou before continuing on your travels to more out of the way places.
Summary:

It is easy to get around the city center area on foot. Though the city is not really a main tourist destination, it is an ideal place from which to reach the traditional old villages of Dehang and Fenghuang, both of which are exceptionally well preserved and charmingly scenic.

There are a few sites in the south of the city that will be of interest to lovers of art and history, such as the Miao Museum and the reconstructed Qianzhou Old Town. Additionally, Jishou University houses the Huang Yongyu Art Museum.

What I love personally in Jishou are the little bars close to Xiangxi Grand Theater and the coffee shops near the train station.
