Danzhou Island (China)

It is one of the oldest cities on the island and has a rich wealth of cultural heritage to offer. Songs and poetry play a particularly important role in the life of Danzhou, and the city even has its own dialect, which is different from that spoken in the province capital, Haikou, even though the two cities are only 130 km apart. Traditional arts and fine cookery also have a special place in the life of the city.

As far as the natural environment is concerned, it's impossible not to be seduced by the beauty and diversity of the landscapes and scenery in both Danzhou and the surrounding area: beaches, natural springs (especially those of Lanyang), lakes, tropical forests (including the National Forest Park), mountains, etc. One of the most popular sites in the city is Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden, which contains several thousand rare species from all four corners of the planet.
