Situated to the west of Hubei Province, in central China, the town of Yichang sits on the banks of the Yangtze River. It dates back 2,700 years - although certain writings claim its roots go further back, to 4,000 years ago.

Summary:

Steeped in history and home to several natural wonders including mountains, caves, waterfalls and stone forests. Its port is one of the busiest in China. The town was often used as a refuge by artists, teachers, poets and painters, who came here to recharge their batteries and seek inspiration.

Yichang is also where you'll find the famous Three Gorges Dam, a great stopover for travelers wanting to cruise along the Yangtze River from Chongqing. After crossing the Qutang, Wu and Xiling Gorges, with their spectacular views and interesting cultural sites, the cruise finishes a few kilometers from Yichang, at the awesome and immense Three Gorges Dam.
