According to legend The Great Wall of China is the only man-made construction visible from the Moon...

Summary:

These fortifications, built between the 13th and 17th Centuries to protect China from its enemies, are, in a nutshell, impressive. The best preserved and well known sections are on the hills around Peking.

Badaling is probably the most touristy. Try to organize accommodation before hand rather than once you're there. You can also get to the Simatai section by following an amazing 10km hike from Jinshangling. But the best part's at Mutianyu, where you can descend in traditional style - by sled! Settled in your sled, you'll slowly head down the wall, watching the scenery go by...a surreal experience.
