It's no surprise that I ended up in Tofino one fine September day during my trip across Canada by car, not really knowing what to expect from the place.
Tofino is quite a small town and very water sports oriented: in other words, I wasn't really in my element there. However, I did greatly enjoy walking around the place and watching the surfers catching the big waves … and in the case of the less experienced of them, avoiding drowning!
By contrast, I was really surprised to discover that you have to pay to go on some of the beaches; don't get caught trying to avoid paying however: checks are carried out on a fairly frequent basis.
Finally, if you can't find anything to interest you in Tofino, just head instead to its smaller neighbour Namaino, which is just as charming but receives less visitors!
