La Vallée de la lune (Bolivia)

Even though the whole valley in which the capital La Paz sits seems to have been carved by great blows from a "machete", Moon Valley's scenery was by far the most impressive to me. I travelled there in a trufi (a local minibus) from the historical city centre, and then we walked through the clay valley. The hardest thing for me was understanding how people could build their houses so close to this stalagmite desert.

Moon Valley, a real work of honey-coloured art, lies just ten kilometres from the city centre. Its buildings are constantly growing to the extent that neighbourhoods like Mallasa are now in rather precarious positions. The landscape is simply fascinating. It's lunar, colourful and extremely photogenic. If your holiday in Bolivia takes you to La Paz, you must visit Moon Valley.
