Vinh Long is a large town on the Mékong Delta's banks,. It's surrounded by stunning orchards and gardens, particularly those on An Binh Island, right opposite Vinh Long. If you head to the jetty, you can catch a boat to cross the river and then follow little paths that wind their way around the island. Vinh Long is also a good departure point for boat trips through the canals' lush scenery. You can also get from the town to the Cai Be floating market. As you'll see, the main attraction here are Mékong's canals, which make for a great family holiday destination.

During my <a href="/vietnam/">trip to Vietnam</a> I said farewell to the Mekong river, which I had followed from the north of Laos, at Vinh Long. As a beauty spot to finish the journey, Vinh Long was the ideal place. It's definitely not the most attractive town in the delta, but you can take a boat and sleep with a local family on the tranquil An Binh island, and that is most definitely paradise! If you want to meet one of these families I advise you to go to the little port. I met my host there and I spent two absolutely marvellous days with his family. Today, it's my favourite souvenir of Vietnam. To sum up, Vinh Long is mostly interesting for its surroundings. I have a particular affection for this town because it was there that I left the Mekong. I have to admit, however, that there are more beautiful places and those not far away. You have to go to Vinh Long if you want to go the paradisaical island of An Binh.

About 30 kilometres from Can Tho, Vinh Long is on the banks of the Mekong and is the best place in the delta to organise a trip on the river.
