The 2,156 metre high Mount Bozdağ stands dominating the town of Bozdağ. A prized destination with Izmir's walkers and climbers, it is also a popular skiing destination in winter, despite the fact the season is often short. And to cap it all you get wonderful views out over the Ödemis Valley into the bargain as well.

My suggestion:
It is perfectly possible to do the ascent of Mount Bozdağ, but make sure you're properly equipped for it! If you take the main route up, you can get all the way to the top without having to do any climbing, but some sections are dizzyingly steep and therefore not to be taken lightly.
Summary:

The Bozdağ Mountains offer some of the most beautiful scenery in Izmir. At 2,000 metres high, they dominate the whole region. It was here in the 1980s that rock climbing really began to take off in Izmir, and since the 1990s skiing has been attracting the area's elite to the mountains.

I arrived in Ödemiş in summer and took accommodation in the town of Bozdağ, my aim being to complete the ascent of Mount Bozdağ. It was dawn when I set off on the climb, and I arrived at the top with my guide at 10:00 in the morning; the view from the summit is phenomenal. It feels like being in the Alps at times in the forested section. I came across a flock of wild mountain sheep at one point. Considering this is such a hot, dry region, I was impressed by how green and verdant the town of Bozdağ looked on my way back down. With my hosts speaking very highly of their local pistes, I was left wanting to come back in winter.
