A small town in Cappadocia, Avanos generates much of its revenue from its traditional potteries.
My suggestion:
If you do go to Avanos, be sure to visit the site of Zelve, located outside the town.
Summary:
A charming little town of around 15,000 inhabitants located by Turkey's main river, the Kizilirmak (the "Red River"), Avanos is not a place that generates much of a stir, and life seems to pass peacefully there. I enjoyed strolling its little, historic streets of faded, Greek-influenced houses and taking advantage of the town's relaxed pace of life. Avanos is famous for its potteries, which attract large number of visitors, though they rarely stay over in the town.

Look up potential potteries to visit in advance.
Summary:
I will remember my adventure to Avanos for a very long time. Not because of the place itself but more so for the incongruity of this trip. Going to discover a charming potter's village nestled in a small corner of Cappadocia, I found myself in a sleepy village.
I must have missed the main attraction of this location because I couldn't find the shadow of a pot. Under a scorching heat in July, there wasn't a sole in the village. To the point when I asked myself: "Am I really in Avanos?" For the return to Nevsehir, the wait for the bus was interminable, or nearly... How strange!
Fortunately, my curiosity led me to the high point, which offered a superb view of the town of Avanos and the surrounding landscapes. From the top, the village is most charming.

Avanos, a provincial city of Nevşehir, is located at the heart of Cappadocia. It is known for its pottery, which dates back to Hittite civilisation, rugs and vineyards. The River Kizilmak, the longest river in Turkey, crosses Avanos.
My suggestion:
Get up early to see the valleys and hot-air balloons, at around 5 in the morning.
Summary:
Every time I go to Cappadocia, I stop off for one or two days in Avanos. There's never a dull moment there! After having passed through the old city, I advise you to climb up to see the vineyards and admire the view of the Çeç burial mound. Then you can sip on a drink in a café alongside the River Kizilmak or in the Sandik café, which is located in a hoodoo. You must visit the Avanos caravanserai.
You can also go horse trekking, do pottery or draw Hittite designs on ceramic plate in Hattuşa. In the evening, in Uranos, an underground festival hall, you can admire musical performances and Turkish folk dancing, all whilst eating and drinking!
