Upon arrival at Bodrum, the first thing you will notice are white houses, its distinguishing feature. A party city, its trendy atmosphere is appreciated by Turkish as well as foreign clubbers. I recall however, hearing more Russian than Turkish during my stay in Bodrum.
Apart from it's lively nightlife, the city offers a lovely port great for pleasant walks, and where you can choose the yacht of your dreams. One of the major attractions is the Castle of St Peter. Built in the 15th century, it has a turbulent past. Today, it houses an interesting collection of underwater artefacts.
Every Tuesday a market is held in the hall overhanging the Otogar. This is your chance to fill up a basket with olives, home-made pancakes and seasonal fruit and vegetable. Slip away from the city centre (by minibus, for example) for a picnic at any one of the beautiful beaches in the area. Relaxation guaranteed.
Though Bodrum is by no means my favourite destination, it still makes for a pleasant stop during your holidays in Turkey, amongst friends.
