As far as I am concerned Lapland is one of the rare places in Europe that is truly wild. It's as if time has stopped there and you can find fascinating natural landscapes disappearing into the distance, made up of forests, lakes, wild rivers, grassy plains and unexplored mountains. <a href="/sweden/">During my stay in Sweden,</a> I felt cut off from everything there, far from frenetic modern life and ever present technology, in a place where being close to nature is still necessary. Whether you want to see the northern lights in summer, meet reindeer, or walk hundreds of kilometres of well signposted paths, the place is a must if you love nature and want to get away from it all. As well as being a region that is shared between three Scandinavian countries, Sweden, Norway and Finland, Lapland also has its own indigenous population, the Sami, who have their own language.
