Upon arrival, you'll be met by a representative from our local travel agency and transferred to your hotel. Depending on the time of your flight, you and your family will have the whole day to relax and acclimatise to the weather or explore your surroundings on foot.
Transfer time: 1.5 hours
After breakfast, you and your family will head towards the last ancient city of Sri Lanka, Kandy. Once you arrive to the city you will be able to freshen up at one of the many tea shops and enjoy a lovely cup of tea with butter cake. In the evening, you'll be taken to the lively sounds of the traditional Kandyan dance performance for an authentic introduction to Sri Lankan culture.
Transfer time: 4.5 hours
After breakfast, set off to visit the renowned Kandy Temple, also known as "The Temple of the Tooth", where the tooth relic of the Buddha lies. The Temple of the sacred Tooth Relic constitutes the premier Buddhist Institution of Sri Lanka and remains the cynosure of the Buddhist world. Declated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the highest venerated religious centre with a very long cultural heritage. In the afternoon, you'll be treated to some exciting family fun as everyone gets together to enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan cooking demonstration.
Today, you'll hop on board the train heading to Nuwara Eliya, also known as "Little England." This is because of the quaint little cottages that can be found scattered all across the city. This truly shows the impact the colonial era had on Sri Lanka. The ride will take you through tea plantations as far as the eye can see and small waterfalls scattered among the greenery. The cool weather and luscious greens makes this a very popular destination for the locals who try and get away from the heat of the city.
Transfer time: 4 hours
After breakfast, you and your family will get to visit a local tea plantation where you will learn a bit about how our famous cup of tea is made; from the planting of the seed to plucking that perfect tea leaf, and then the process that goes into drying and grinding it into that bold flavour that we have come to love. Later, go on a stroll through Hakgala Botanical Garden before having the evening to relax in your tranquil surroundings. If you're still feeling adventurous, why not set off on a boat ride on Lake Gregory?
After breakfast, you'll continue your journey towards Udawalawe National Park. In the evening, you'll be taken to the Udawalawe Elephant Transit House, where you and your family can watch rescued baby elephants being fed and looked after (a family favourite)!
Transfer time: 4 hours
Today, you'll have an early start to head off on a safari in Udawalawe National Park. The park boasts an impressive number of elephants, as well as sloth bears, jackals, and water buffaloes. Later in the afternoon, you'll continue the journey towards your beach hotel, stopping off en-route for an unforgettable visit to a Turtle Hatchery.
Transfer time: 4 hours
As you reach the final part of your trip, you'll have the entire day free to wind down on the beach to the tropical sounds of the Indian Ocean. Bentota Beach is one of the most family-friendly beaches in Sri Lanka, with gentle waves for children to swim in. Parents, you'll be able to watch the vibrant colours of the sunset while sipping on a refreshing cocktail. If you're feeling active, we recommend the following activities for families:• A family surf lesson, or snorkelling or diving trip
• A trip to Mirissa Beach where you can go whale-watching
• A cycling tour in Galle
Today, you'll be setting off on a boat safari in Bentota River, where you can sit back and take in the relaxing scenery while exploring mangroves and looking out for birds, crocodiles, and monitor lizards. Make sure you have your cameras ready!
For your final day in Sri Lanka, you and your family will be transferred to Colombo Airport for your flight home. We hope you've had an amazing time in Sri Lanka and look forward to seeing you again soon!
