I arrived at the Royal Gardens a little annoyed that I had to pay ten times what the Sri Lankans did to get in. Peradeniya does not escape the rule: whenever I went anywhere on my <a href="/sri-lanka/">trip to Sri Lanka</a>, I always found two tariffs: one for the locals and one for foreigners. That's just the way it is. I was immediately struck by the size of the trees, especially on the path of royal palms that traversed the entire park. I stayed for a while at the table of the small central cafe, contemplating the impressive figure of the Jave fig tree that sits in the middle of the park. It covers the equivalent of 2,500 metres squared. One of the greenhouses in the park is home to a magnificent collection of orchids that I really recommend you see. I was lucky enough to be able to attend the photo shoot of two young newlyweds in traditional dress. I did not forget to look round the shop near the exit, which sells grains and seeds for gardeners.
