Cape of Good Hope: an edge of the world

It is inconceivable to plan a trip to South Africa without planning to go the Cape of Good Hope. It is the edge of a country, the edge of a continent, the edge of a world. It is rare to find such an atmosphere in the world. Don't waste a second, go and enjoy this unique experience.

Between Cape Town and the Cape of Good Hope

When leaving the beautiful Cape Town and taking the mythic route of the Cape of Good Hope, you will already have the opportunity to discover some true wonders of nature. Well before arriving at the end of the continent you can make several stops. To begin with, stop at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. Across 36 hectares, you will discover one of the largest and most beautiful botanic gardens of the world. For those passionate about making wine, you should definitely make a visit to the Groot Constantia Winery. The Groot Constantia Homestead and Wine Museum are also definitely worth taking the time to see. In Hout Bay, you should admire the countryside. The city is set in a beautiful bay surrounded by high mountains. It's splendid. When you go to the port, you can take a boat to go and say hello to the large colony of sea lions that have made Duiker Island their home. Continuing your journey south, the cliff below Chapman's Peak offers amazing panoramas. If you have time and you have thought to bring your surf board, you will love the Muizenberg beach. The coloured beach cabins are true tourism stars in South Africa. To finish the walk, you will find Simon's Town, a large colony of penguins from the Cape. The setting is lovely and the show that these little animals give when they waddle around the beach is always great.

The mythic Cape

At the tip of South Africa, at the base of the African continent, the Cape of Good Hope is one of the rare places in the world to have such an atmosphere and give such an impression of being at the world's edge. A little game of comparisons, the Cape of Good Hope in Africa could be the equivalent of the Cape Horn of Ushuaia on the American continent. Just like with everything else, it's worth knowing that the reason why Cape of Good Hope is the most famous and well known isn't for being the southernmost point because in fact it isn't. For this you have to go the Cape Agulhas after Hermanus. Today the Cape of Good Hope reserve is inscribed into UNESCO World Heritage and you can go on amazing walks there. You also have to go to the top of the lighthouse which will take you a 45-minute walk. From there, you efforts will be compensated by an amazing 360-degrees panorama and an unparalleled view of the very edge of the world's end. It's not impossible to go any further, you are at the end of the continent. You will feel the unique sensation of being at the end of the world. It's amazing.
