Stretching along the river of the same name, the Barguzin Valley reminds you of Mongolia with its landscape of steppes and lakes.
My suggestion:
Make sure you find out about transport. And learn some Russian if you want to make yourself understood because no one speaks English.
Summary:
If you want a trip that's off the beaten track, you can't do better than the Barguzin Valley. It's difficult to get there from Ulan-Ude and there is absolutely no tourist infrastructure. Walking and camping are your only possibilities and that's good because the ground is made for it. Between the lakes and the steppes the horizon is very open and it gave me a similar feeling to Olkhon Island, without Lake Baikal.
There are treks from the villages of Uro, and Suvo, which is overshadowed by a rocky formation called Suvinskaya Saksoniya. All along the valley these rocky formations reinforce the desert like, almost inhospitable, feeling of the place.
In the north are the Barguzin Mountains where paths are being created. Which shows that the Barguzin Valley has tourist potential but at the moment is still very well preserved.
