After visiting and exploring <a href="/peru/">Arequipa</a> and falling under its charm, we decided to spend a few hours in Cayma, which lies just a stone's throws away from Peru's "White City". 
Cayma has a number of things in common with its bigger sister Arequipa. It is simply overflowing with buildings that stand as testimony to its rich colonial past for example. As in most South American cities, the main historical buildings here are concentrated around the Plaza de Arma, with the Palacio Municipal, the church of San Miguel Arcángel and various houses dating from the 17th century all to be found there.
After spending a few hours walking around the beautiful colonial part of the city, we sat down at a little restaurant and tried our first adobo arequipeño: Arequipa's traditional dish consisting of pork in sauce with aromatic herbs. We enjoyed it much more than we did the cuy (guinea pig) we'd eaten the night before.
