The Cordillera Blanca owes it's name to it's permanent snow-covered peaks. It alone comprises not less that 300 mountains, of which 27 are over 6000m, or about 20,000ft in altitude. Needless to say it's a paradise for climbers. But not just that! Even the the most novice hikers can set off on walking adventure for a number of days without hesitating too much. One thing to take into account when you are organising <a href="/peru/">your itinerary in Peru</a>, especially if you are are dreaming of a adventure in the wilds of nature. 
When you get to the area you will notice there are a multitude of 'lagunas' with complicated names. A little tip, they almost all finish with cocha, or lake in Quechua. If you reach the Huecrococha laguna, this means that theoretically, just like me, you have done the Alpamayo trek. That said, all roads lead to Rome (note to self, don't use this type of expression any more), so you could get there via an extension f the Santa Cruz trek if you wanted to.
The spot in question certainly isn't the most beautiful that I was able to see during my trek (you too will find that you'll become a little picky after a few days in such a landscape) On the other hand the setting is perfect for bivouacking, partly because it is sheltered from the wind and most of all for the very pretty view of Taulliraju that it offers.
