The hike to Wilcahuain is one of the acclimatisation walks you may be advised to do before going on one of the longer treks. So what is there to say about it? It's certainly not one of the prettiest walks to go on. Chirup Lake, and in fact Wilcacocha too, are definitely better when it comes to the quality of the scenery. What makes this walk interesting, however, is that it takes you through several typical Andean villages, which means you're guaranteed the opportunity to experience something far removed from your normal, everyday life! As for the site itself, it's actually very small, as is the museum that adjoins it: suffice to say it won't take you long to look around it all. Just a ten-minute walk away lies the complex of Ichik Wilcahuain, and I found this more impressive than the first site   If you're going to tour the Huaraz area during <a href="/peru/">your trip to Peru</a> and have quite a bit of time available, then why not consider doing this walk? A little piece of advice, however: watch out for dogs along the way, which have a tendency to be aggressive.
