I got a chance to discover the small village of Malata during a 3 day hike in the pretty Colca Valley.
In the course of our stay, we discovered the villages of Lahuar, Fure, Malata, Cabanaconde and also <a href="/peru/"> Canacota </a> canyon. Still, the main attraction of this trek is Colca Canyon. Measuring over 11 154 ft. in depth, it is placed second deepest canyon in the world. It is its Peruvian neighbour, Cotahusasi Canyon, that takes first place.
Be well prepared before you leave for your adventure as the Colca Canyon trek is known for its quite marked unevenness. Nevertheless, most hikers go hiking without a guide as the trails are rather well indicated. If you plan to go on your own, take along some snacks and plenty of water in case you feel drained along the way. Off you go on an immersion trek into Peruvian culture!  
Last piece of info, take your swimming suit along: you will find hot water pools along the way. A good way to relax before getting back on the road.
