 What could be better than walking in the footsteps of the Incas!
The hike along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is the most popular route among travellers but it requires preparation and planning in advance. A victim of its own success, this trek requires you to book six months in advance. Fortunately there are other expeditions such as the Ausangate trek. Reaching up to an altitude of over 6,000 metres in the Vilcanota Mountains, this mountain is surrounded by spectacular landscapes, between sparkling lakes, snowy peaks and vast pastures. This week-long trek is known for the high altitude of the mountain passes that you have to climb.
Before heading off on this adventure, make sure you have all the appropriate equipment and that you are physically prepared.
 If you get mountain sickness, there is nothing better than a coca infusion. Most of all, make sure you do not overestimate your body and go at your own pace. The Ausangate awaits.
Once we were on our way, we came across many Andean hamlets such as Urcos, Tinqui, Upis and Chilca Tambo. But you can vary your itinerary depending on the length of your visit and your physical condition.
