My suggestion
Hiking at altitude is very physically demanding and requires a period of acclimatisation. It's therefore a good idea to arrive a few days before setting off. An additional – and delicious – way to limit the unpleasant effects of altitude sickness is to drink a cup of coca tea.

Huaraz, the "international capital of friendship", is located right in the centre of the Cordillera in the Peruvian Andes, at an altitude of 3080m, or just over 10,000ft. A haven for sports-lovers of all types.
My suggestion
The natural attractions around the town are teeming. Don't hesitate to hire a local guide, who will take you off the beaten path. You're going to be amazed!
