Tromsø 's position in Norway makes it an exceptional town to visit during a <a href="/norway/">trip to the north of the country</a>. It's on a little island in the Arctic Ocean, between the sea, the mountains and the fjords. It's fascinating to discover a town like this at such a latitude. Tromsø is a pretty, typically Scandinavian town. It has quite a pleasant climate because it is warmed by the Gulf Stream. The town developed around hunting and fishing, which you can find out about during a visit to the Polar Museum - fascinating! I also loved the palm trees in Tromsø's big park. The Arctic Cathedral and Tromsø's main street are also very interesting. The last is very colourful. Fjellheisen cable car is another good way to see the surroundings. It could be a good place to see the midnight sun, or the northern lights, according to the season, even though it wasn't for me!

If you dream of the northern lights, breath taking fjords or the great outdoors, you've come to the right place! Tromsø's fjords are one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It doesn't matter what the weather is, or where you are, the view is always staggering. I was seduced by the freedom I would have by travelling by car. It made little known places more accessible to our wondering eyes. We wandered without any precise agenda, stopping where we wanted - it was exhilarating. A word of warning, though, about driving on snow covered roads. Watch out for vicious blocks of snow which turn out to be blocks of ice, for the powder that can quickly cause you to lose control of the car, and rules of the road which are not necessarily the same as ours!
