Honeymoon in Morocco

Some places in Morocco are particularly splendid and romantic. There you have it: an interesting honeymoon destination that is not too expensive and not very far from the United Kingdom.

The old towns and ancient palaces

During your stay in Morocco, particularly if you are visiting on honeymoon, you will be surrounded by the many old imperial cities, such as the old city of Fez or even that of Meknes.

The medinas of Tétouan, Essaouira, and Marrakesh, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, will be delights of architectural and cultural beauty to explore quietly as a couple in the romantic atmosphere at the end of the day or during sunset.

In these medinas in Morocco, there are many restaurants up high on the rooftop terraces of old forts or turrets that create a magical, fairy-tale setting at nightfall as you look down on the city and its thousand lights.

The oases in the Atlas Mountains

What could be more romantic and more ideal for a couple honeymooning in Morocco than to go off and explore the many sublime valleys in the Atlas Mountains?

The Draa Valley and the Dadès Valley are the most well-known valleys in Morocco, but they are also the most beautiful. You can take great delight in going for magnificent hikes through breathtaking landscapes. You can go for a swim in the many waterfalls and rivers in the region, and sleep at bed and breakfasts or superb little hotels lost in the midst of this breathtaking setting.

It is particularly recommended to go in spring when the valleys are in flower and the heat is bearable.

A romantic riad

The epitome of romance for a honeymoon in Morocco is to go to one of the many hotels with riads that can be found almost everywhere in the country. With their inner courtyards, their patios, their terraces, their tropical gardens, their private salons, and—very often—their private pools and baths, you will have the sensation of being in the world of a thousand and one nights!

If you feel like it, do not hesitate to rent an entire riad. This can be a very pleasant—and sometimes even more economical—way of finding accommodation in Morocco, and also a way of being able to see the country at its own pace and even prepare your own meals.

The charming coastal towns

Certain cities in Morocco have a wild charm. That is the case for two coastal cities on either side of the country: the city of Essaouira and the city of Tangier.

The fortified and windswept city of Essaouira, facing the Atlantic Ocean, truly captivates travellers with the high walls of its medina and its sea spray.

With its undulating old city and its traces of artists and poets, the port city of Tangier—facing the Spanish coasts at the crossroads between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean—will give you the sensation of being in an old black-and-white movie.
