If you want to explore the mountains during your <a href="/mongolia/">holiday in Mongolia</a>, the country's third highest peak, the Tsambagarav, is a fascinating option. If you're an experienced climber then the ascent won't pose any problems. We needed to take crampons and ice picks with us, but, apart from that, no other specialist equipment was required. The view from the top is breathtaking and you'll probably spot a wealth of wildlife along the way. The region is home to snow leopards which can be hard to spy and you'll also find large, incredibly wild sheep! You need a permit to enter the park and ask for help and/or buy supplies from nomads. The area is vast and empty...you'll occasionally stumble on a single yurt in one or other of the valleys. You can easily hike around Tsambagarav, but, due to the sparse population, make sure you have plenty of supplies and have mapped out your route.
