The Maldives are famous for their numerous diving sites. You'll spot tropical fish, turtles, rays and maybe even bump into a shark or two! You can also go snorkelling. Try to go between January and Aprill, which is the best period for diving, or during October/November when whale sharks and manta rays visit the shores.

Increasing numbers of surfers are heading to the Maldives. The best option is to organise a surfing trip via a specialist local agency. Aim for between March and October and between June and August when the surf is up.

The Maldives's plant life includes bamboo, banana trees, coconut trees and various species of palm. Animal-wise it's home to bats, lizards and, most of all, a stunning marine life. Best to go during the dry season, between December and April.
