During my first <a href="/israel/">trip to Israel</a>, the Negev was the part of the country that I was least interested in. I went there to explore Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Galilee and the Dead Sea. However, I had to cross the Negev to go from the Dead Sea to Tel Aviv and I simply fell in love. I was intensely affected by the different tones of ochre (orange, yellow, ecru, red, etc.) of the hills under a deep blue sky, the horizon in the far distance and, above all, a silence so loud as to be deafening. Since then, every time I go to Israel I try to visit a new part of this impressive desert, which mixes the tiny islands of greenery belonging to moshav or kibbutz with vast desert spaces. Although it looks austere, the Negev is ready to reveal its charms if you take the trouble to look for them.
