Nebaj is a big village in the Ixil region; it's definitely the best known village because of its Spanish teaching school.

My suggestion:
If you like mountains then Nebaj is perfect as it has many opportunities for wonderful walks. But you should hire a guide because the trails are not very well marked.
Summary:

During our visit to Guatemala, we came to Nebaj and had the opportunity to discover its surrounding areas. Nebaj is a large village which attracts lots of people; there's a Spanish school and lots of opportunities to go on incredible walks. It's also the Mayan heartland.

Unfortunately when we went there, the weather was rather rainy and so we were happy to acquire useful information about the walks. Whether you're there for half a day or for several days, you'll have lots of choices. But a guide is essential to ensure that you remain safe and return to where you started!

Here in Nebaj, the women are dressed in yellow and blue. Every village has its own colours which help people to recognise each other during the festivals. Once the rain subsided, we walked to the market and tried a local dish.
