Travel around the volcanoes
Admire Guatemala's legendary volcanoes, such as Tajumulco, the highest point of Central America. You can also hike at San Pedro to admire the view over Lake Atitlan, or watch a sunrise at Santa Maria. Favour the period between December and April in order to avoid rainfall.
Travel around the Mayan ruins
Guatemala is full of magnificent remains of the Mayan civilisation. You can't miss the legendary site of Tikal, as well as the Copan site's headstones. If you want to avoid the crowds, head for Quirigua, a site which is just as beautiful, but visited less. Preferably set off between December and April to discover these treasures in the best possible climate.
Travel around the flora and fauna
In Guatemala, you'll come across turtles and whales, as well as numerous species of birds, for example, in the village of Monterrico. On the banks of the Dulce River, you can see manatees and crocodiles, whilst bird lovers will discover a large number of them in the tropical forests around Coban. Set off between December and April to avoid the rain and mud which consequently invades the jungle.
Sport and activities travel
Go hiking in Guatemala, notably in the volcanic scenery. You can also travel the country by mountain bike or motorbike. Go scuba diving and water-rafting, as well as swimming, of course. And you'll certainly spend some time watching the birds in Tikal National Park or elsewhere. Choose the period which stretches from December to April.
