The only way to get to Ilimanaq is by boat or helicopter. I opted to take the boat. Crossing the ice fjord and navigating through the icebergs on the sea's perfectly calm waters was really impressive. We even spotted whales at times. And as for the incredible peace and quiet…
Ilimanaq is a charming, tiny little village inhabited by around 80 people and acts as a reminder that there are other ways of living than the way we do in Europe.
Ilimanaq is great if you want to go hiking. The walks in the area around this Inuit village are beautiful. However, the trails are not waymarked like the ones at Ilulissat, so it's best to be somewhat cautious. The village is arranged like all Greenland's villages, i.e. with the local store located by the harbour and the main place for meeting and socialising, and the houses located all around. Adopt a friendly, open attitude and the Inuits will welcome you with open arms.
In the winter, Ilimanaq gets pretty much cut off from everything.
