The main town in the south of the region, and very close to the region of Sumava, Ceské Budejovice is pleasant but not a must see.

My suggestion:
Ceské Budejovice is best known for the beer produced in the town, Budvar, one of the best Czech beers.
Summary:

Situated in South Bohemia, Ceské Budejovice is a big industrial town where you will find one of the biggest breweries of central Europe which produces the original Budweiser. I went there several times but I was never really a big fan of the town itself. It's true that the central square is impressive, both for its size and for its arcades where you will find shops, restaurants and cafes, but the rest is a bit so so and looks more or less like all the other mid-sized Czech towns.

But the main reason I wanted to leave Ceske Budejovice was to visit the sublime town of Cesky Krumlov, a few kilometres to the south, and the beginnings of the first hills of the incredible natural region of Sumava, one of my favourite places in the Czech Republic.
