Festivals and events in Croatia

Whenever you choose to head to Croatia, you are bound to find something whether it's a religious holiday, festival or a sporting or cultural event!

Summer festivals and events in Croatia

In July and August:

- The Old Sports Olympics in Brođanci: For over 30 years, this event has commemorated the sports which were organised by young shepherds centuries ago.

- Island Krk wine days: These include presentations and tasting sessions and are the ideal opportunity to meet other connoisseurs of the beverage of the Gods, as well as discover the local varieties.

- Dubrovnik Summer Festival: This is Croatia's oldest and probably most famous festival, offering classical music and theatre performances at the heart of the medieval city.

- The Trogir Summer of Culture: This is your chance to enjoy concerts, classical music, exhibitions and theatre performances. Summer is certainly cultural in Trogir.

Autumn festivals and events in Croatia

In September:

- Vinkovci Autumn: a celebration of folklore which celebrates Slavic traditions.

- The Stone Wall Marathon in Ston This is one of the most difficult marathons to complete since part of the course is along the length of a steep wall! The run promises to be spectacular.

- Wine&Jazz festival in Dubrovnik: a fantastic mix which is sure to please food connoisseurs.

In October:

Zagreb Film Festival: an international film competition which is increasing in popularity and acclaim.

From September to November

Festival of Istrian Truffles: Are you a lover of truffles? Have you eaten one before? If you have yet to do so, this may just be the best opportunity.

Winter festivals and events in Croatia

In December:

- Advent in Zagreb: The streets of central Zagreb are taken over by artisans, culinary specialties and decorations.

From February to March:

- Dubrovnik Carnival and Rijeka Carnival: Croatia plays host to a dazzling display of beautiful costumes, and many larger towns and cities organise parades and grand celebrations for carnival, which is steeped in tradition.
