The GR20 is a difficult trek that is known to walkers from all over the world. It crosses Corsica, from north to south, or the opposite, in 15 days of intensive walking. But seeing the sunset over the Aiguilles de Bavella, or the sheep on the mountain ridges, not to mention the unforgettable views of the sea - aren't these natural wonders worth the effort?

Like a crescent moon plunging into a turquoise sea, the Gulf of Ajaccio is one of the places you absolutely have to see if you spend any time visiting the island's largest city. Along the local route des Sanguinaires, which runs along the coast, there is a succession of restaurants and smaller beachside eating places to be found. Venture along it and you are guaranteed both sublime views and fresh local products if you happen to get hungry.
This is where Ajaccio locals and tourists come together to dine, bathe or simply relax on the beach.
The main reason for my visit to Ajaccio was to see the Sanguinaires Islands (Îles Sanguinaires)<a></a>. Evocatively named (literally 'Bloody Islands') like something from a film, they lie out in the sea silently watching over the gulf and are guaranteed to create an impression on you. So follow the road that shares their name right to the end … and simply stop and admire the view they present!
