Nuquí lies in the Gulf of Tribugá, south of Bahía Solano and Utría National Park and at a point where a number of rivers flow into the Pacific Ocean. This charming little coastal town, with a population of around 8,000, has some beautiful, peaceful beaches washed by the waters of the Pacific and lying surrounded by mangroves.
Things to see and do in Nuquí and the surrounding area include short boat trips to explore the plants and wildlife of the tropical forest and a wide range of water sports, such as surfing. What really marks Nuquí out, however, are its humpback whales, which come to nearby Utria Bay, just a few kilometres away, to breed from July to November. Getting up close to these giant marine mammals is guaranteed to be a thrilling experience. Visiting this place really makes you conscious of the wonders our beautiful planet has to offer and the fragile balance that exists between man and nature.
