The cities of Armenia, Pereira and Manizales form what Colombians call the “Coffee Triangle”, and going there is a must during your stay in Colombia. Armenia is lavishly surrounded by lush green mountains covered with coffee plantations (and banana trees that quite often accompany them). It sits at 4850 feet above sea level, and it has a relatively temperate climate. I've noticed that often cities in the coffee region do not have very interesting architecture and there's a reason for that: many of them have been destroyed and then rebuilt after various earthquakes.
