The Carrizal Desert is located in the Department of La Guajira, in extreme northern Colombia.

My suggestion:
The Department of La Guajira is mostly made up of trails, so an off-road vehicle is essential for access to the beaches and other isolated places.
Summary:

The land of the Wayuu Indians on the La Guajira peninsula in extreme northern Colombia, the Carrizal Desert is a vast stretch of sand bordered by the Caribbean Sea.

I had the opportunity to discover the Carrizal desert during a trip to Colombia. To discover the beautiful landscapes of this region on the border with Venezuela, it's best to rent an off-road vehicle, because the majority of the places to visit are off the beaten path.

During our first day of escape from Riohacha in Cabo de la Vela, we crossed these immense ochre sand dunes that contrast with the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. When we arrived in Cabo de la Vela, we headed to the Pilón de Azúcar, a pyramid-shaped hill where the Caribbean Sea and the desert come together in a contrast of stunning colours. Note that fans of water sports will not forgotten because the area is a great spot for surfing and kite-surfing.
